(EN) Yasmin cannot remember not feeling an intense urge to make music.
(EN) When she was a child she was given a vast collection of records consisting of soul, disco and funk. What she loved the most about the records was their playfulness and being able to tweak the rhythm and pitch with her finger tips. The tangibility of vinyls was what she found most exciting and fun. That small obsession soon evolved into a heavy addiction to sourcing music and mixes from around the world.
Whilst at university, Yasmin started investing more and more energy into dissecting tracks and testing the evolution of their characters and acoustic composition. “In the end of the day, I had to make music to justify the amount of time I spent pulling it apart!” During her first stages of experimentation, she was cutting up pieces she composed using her guitar, influenced by Nick Drake at the time. All the sounds she produced were very ambient and a little wonky, which still stands today.
(EN) Evoking emotions and inspiring journeys is what lies at the heart of her compilations. “When I DJ or put a mixtape together, I often carefully plan how each track works with the next, so they elapse as one long piece of music – a continuous set of sound waves that progress and transform almost imperceptibly.” This particular mixtape is created to highlight beautiful, glorious sounds. Some are hidden, others are more prominent, but they all intertwine and flow together.
