Photographer Daniel Farò takes us on a road-trip through rugged Cornwall

The rugged complexity of Cornwall’s centuries old cliffs, beaches and coves provided the perfect canvas for Berlin-based, Italian-born photographer Daniel Farò. He spent ten days traversing Britain’s most westerly county discovering its wild moorland, spectacular coasts and historic fishing villages.

With the promise of cheap flights, readily available accommodation and an escape from hoards of tourists, traveling in the low season sounds like a no brainer. However, the cold wind lashing across your face, a foggy haze giving you about half a meter of visibility and the inevitable closure of all major attractions starts to make you think that ‘high season’ exists for a reason!

We spent ten days on the road in Cornwall, starting off on the northern coast at Tintagel—a medieval castle famed for its role in the legend of King Arthur. Our adventure continued along narrow, winding roads towards Lizard Point, Kynance Cove and the small fishing village of Cadgwith. The raw nature—the rugged cliffs, sandy beaches and crashing waves evoke a past age and we found ourselves lost in this new natural world away from the metropolis of our normal 21st century existence.

After watching surfers in St. Ives and sunset hikes at Port Isaac, we finished our trip by continuing on to the fog, tranquility and mystery of Land’s End. This ghostly, eerie, most westerly point of Great Britain could perhaps only have been as spectacular as it was when it was in the midst of the weather conditions typical of the ‘off season’. The summer sounds of tourists chattering and cameras clicking were replaced by the howling wind and the crashing waves, bringing our trip to an end at its core—raw, rugged and beautiful Cornwall.

Berlin-based, Italian-born photographer and graphic designer Daniel Farò travels the world taking pictures of wild landscapes, inspiring individuals and bustling cities. We were particularly captivated by the way in which Daniel captured the rugged complexity of Cornwall’s wild moorlands, spectacular coats and historic fishing villages.
