Link List #34

At FvF, we’re always connected. With our Link List, we wade into the frontlines of the digital zeitgeist to find the best articles and links and then collect them here for you to enjoy and share.

We don’t plan our link list around a thesis or theme, but this edition dwells on the cultural boundaries, visiting artists and designers who seemingly can’t stop innovating. This time around, we’re sharing bulletins from the worlds of Apple and Snapchat alongside stories of several creatives who are continually reinventing themselves, their work and their relationship to the world around them.

  1. The New York Times met with Noma owner René Redzepi to get the dirt on his plans to turn the restaurant into an urban farm.
  2. Japanese artists have been working on the fringes of “heta-uma” avant-garde for decades – art that is “bad but good.” Art Review has the details on two landmark exhibitions.
  3. A playful tool from FTAVis explores the evolution of trade agreements over the past several decades. Once you start, it’s hard to stop.
  4. Columbian photographer Marcela Barrios and her Hasselblad camera made the trek to Algeria, a country emerging from the shrouds of colonialism and corruption. VSCO features her work on their grid.
  5. Bloomberg pulls back the curtain on the years of engineering it took Apple to design and build its 3D-touch feature.
  6. Frieze profiles Paolo Nazareth, a Brazilian artist whose performance-art wanderings and unconcerned style of working refuses seriousness.
  7. For More Intelligent Life, Ian Leslie investigates decision making, the feeling of knowing and how our hunches let us down.
  8. The Verge traces the transformation of Snapchat.
  9. From inking prison tattoos to painting a mural at LAX on the ceiling of the American Airlines terminal: LA Weekly shares an artist’s film-worthy redemption story.
